Reading list

For those interested in reading about issues concerning our landscapes, I offer a list-in-progress of books I have enjoyed and found of interest. Landscape is a cultural term I use for convenience: it is the result of how we have shaped and continue to shape the land, from the “pristine” to the “disturbed”. The location of human beings in context of place has become the focus of a wonderfully diverse range of disciplines, to wit: public art, landscape art, cultural geography, landscape studies, environmental psychology, philosophy, phenomenology, landscape architecture and engineering, regional planning, sociology, placemaking, urban and rural history, conservation, restoration ecology, landscape history, environmental studies, industrial archeology, reclamation aesthetics...
